We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented part-time (30hrs a week) employee to join our research and development team as a Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) Operator Trainee. This role is ideal for students, recent graduates, or early-career professionals with a background in materials science, physics, or chemistry, who are eager to gain hands-on experience in advanced microscopy and nanomaterials characterization.

Your Role:

  • Receive full training in the operation of a Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM)
  • Perform routine SEM imaging of a range of nanomaterials, primarily multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs)and graphite.
  • Assist with sample preparation and data acquisition.
  • Maintain clean lab practices and follow standard operating procedures.
  • Collaborate with researchers to optimize imaging protocols for diverse carbon-based materials.
  • Provide researchers with valuable insights regarding R&D experiments.
  • Support routine maintenance and basic troubleshooting of the SEM
  • Coordinate with the instrument manufacturer for servicing, software updates, and technical support as needed


Some of the key traits we are looking for include:

  • Background (academic or practical) in materials science, physics, chemistry, or a related field
  • Strong attention to detail and a methodical approach to experimentation
  • Willingness to learn and operate specialized lab equipment (no prior SEM experience needed)
  • Familiarity with carbon-based materials such as CNTs, graphene, or graphite is a bonus.
  • Good organizational and communication skills.
  • Availability for consistent part-time hours during the week.
